Tonight was surreal.
We’ve been planning, designing, and building Foto for a year. A couple of hours ago I finally installed the 1st version of Foto onto my personal phone.
While we have a long road ahead, it’s important to take time to celebrate milestones along the way. We still feel like we haven’t even started our journey yet. All of the work we’ve put in is just to get us to the starting line of a long, long race.
If you’ve supported Foto this past year, we want to say ‘Thank You!’
We wouldn’t be putting this much effort into Foto if we didn’t feel like there was a community supporting us and cheering for us. Nothing is done in a vacuum and we’ve gotten this far because of you.
Let’s talk logistics.
The reason we are putting Foto on our phones is to do internal testing. We are looking for bugs and seeing how the user experience is for us. Private Beta is right around the corner, but we want to make sure Foto is running smoothly when we invite all our Beta Users onto Foto for the first time.
We are going to spend a couple of weeks eliminating any bugs we find on the iPhone and Android versions of Foto. Then we’ll do final preparations for Private Beta and get this into your hands.
Private Beta
We still have room for more Private Beta users. If you’d like to be one of the first people on Foto and to help us build a unique photo-sharing platform, then we’d love for you to join us.
Details are below.
Tonight I uploaded images to Foto for the first time and here are the results.
The video above shows different image aspect ratios and how we’ll respect any creative aspect ratio you choose to upload to Foto. We won’t be cropping your images.
The image above shows how we carry the respect for aspect ratios over to the Account Profile Page. Over time, we’ll expand the way you can view images. We’ll work on being able to view images full screen on phones in vertical and horizontal orientation. Also, we plan on designing a unique desktop experience that feels like a professional portfolio website. We believe the mobile experience and desktop experience should be different to maximum the experience on both devices.
Thank you again for supporting Foto.
Seriously. You have no idea how much it means to have people from all over the world connect with us and sign up to be a Private Beta User. It’s very humbling to see people rally around what we are trying to do.
Cheers,
Michael
This is very cool! I love the idea of having the profile page be a collage that respects the original aspect ratios.
Congratulations! I am so excited for what comes next.
