I want to start by thanking you for your interest in Foto. We’ve been working hard building the first version of Foto, and we have a lot of important decisions to make this year that will lay our foundation.
Instagram continues to make decisions that move it farther and farther away from a platform that benefits image makers. With rising discontent among Instagram users, we hope to fill the void they are leaving in their wake. More people following Foto are starting to ask when we are launching and want a timeline update, so here is what you can expect for the rest of this year.
Note: This timeline may change at any time. This is a rough estimate; many factors can speed up or slow down everything we are building.
April - June
We hope to release Foto 1.0 to our Private Beta Users within this window.
As of Feb. 20th, 2023, we are 75% through the front-end development for Foto 1.0. We hope to finish front-end development in early March. After that, we will turn our attention to our API and back-end development.
The final step will be getting approval from the Apple and Google app stores. Yes, we plan on launching on iPhone and Android simultaneously, pending approval from their app stores. One may approve us before the other, but we will submit Foto to both companies simultaneously.
Once approved, we will email everyone on our Private Beta List to join early testing.
May - August
We will likely spend two months in Private Beta fixing bugs, improving the user experience, and releasing new features to improve Foto for our early adopters. If you join us for Private Beta, we will ask for feedback and consider all early impressions deeply.
September - December
This fall, we hope to release Foto for everyone to download.
We appreciate you for supporting Foto so early. The encouragement we have received from people keeps us going and pushing through all the hurdles in our way. There are a lot of obstacles and difficult conversations that still have to be had, but we will be transparent about our thoughts and reasoning as we progress.
If you’d like to be one of our Private Beta Users, then make sure to visit fotoapp.co/beta for all the details about how you can get on the list.
Cheers,
Michael
